You run a Shopify store. You've never hired an agency, and the "developer" tab of your admin panel makes your palms sweat. The product descriptions are the ones your supplier wrote in 2021. The theme has a weird spacing bug on mobile that you've been meaning to fix since Christmas. Last week's sales report is a spreadsheet you haven't opened.

Shopify's official MCP server — the one their own developer relations team maintains — gives Claude direct, authenticated access to your store. That means the AI you're already paying for can read your actual products, query your actual orders, browse your actual theme files, and make changes when you ask it to. Not a simulation. Not a demo store. Yours.

The difference this makes is hard to overstate for one very specific person: the store owner who's been trying to describe their problem to a freelancer on Upwork for three months. Instead of "the product card looks weird on iPhone," you open Claude and say "the product card on my collection page has too much padding above the price on mobile — fix it." Claude pulls the theme file, edits the Liquid, and hands you back a diff. You approve it. Done.

It's also genuinely good at the drudge work. Writing descriptions for 40 new products from your catalog photos and SKU notes. Pulling a quick "how did the blue ones do in November" report without touching a spreadsheet. Drafting a restock email using the actual customers who bought the item last time.

What it's not: a replacement for a real developer when things get structural. If your store needs a custom checkout extension or a proper app, you still need a human. And it's still Claude, so it can make mistakes — always preview theme changes in a duplicate before you publish.
