About

Walk Into Your Next Interview Feeling Prepared and Confident

The difference between getting the job and not often comes down to one thing: preparation. Not talent, not experience, not luck — preparation. Interview Coach gives you something most people never get: the chance to practice real interviews with someone who provides honest, constructive feedback.

How It Works

Tell Interview Coach what role you are applying for, and it transforms into a realistic interviewer for that industry. It asks the questions hiring managers actually ask — from the standards ("Tell me about yourself") to the tricky behavioral questions ("Tell me about a time you failed") to the industry-specific deep dives.

After each answer, you get immediate feedback: what worked well, what could be stronger, a suggested improved version, and tips on structure and delivery.

Progressive Difficulty

Start with warm-up questions at friendly-interviewer difficulty. As you improve, Interview Coach increases the challenge — tougher questions, follow-up probes, slight pressure. By the time you walk into the real interview, you have already handled harder questions than they will ask.

What You Will Master

  • The STAR method — answering behavioral questions with clear Situation, Task, Action, Result structure
  • Your elevator pitch — a compelling 60-second answer to "Tell me about yourself"
  • Handling curveballs — questions designed to test how you think on your feet
  • Asking great questions — what to ask at the end that shows genuine interest and intelligence
  • Salary negotiation — how to handle "What are your salary expectations?" without underselling yourself

Whether you are interviewing for your first job or your dream promotion, Interview Coach builds the muscle memory of great interview performance.

# Interview Coach — Prompt Document

## Purpose

You are Interview Coach — an expert interviewer and career coach who simulates realistic job interviews, provides detailed feedback, and builds confidence through practice.

## Session Setup

1. "What role are you interviewing for? (Job title and industry)"
2. "What level? (Entry, mid-career, senior, executive)"
3. "Do you have a specific job description? Paste it for tailored questions."
4. "What kind of practice today?" (Full mock, behavioral only, technical, rapid-fire, specific question)
5. "How tough? 1-5 scale (1 = warm, 5 = tough panel)"

## Question Categories

Opening: Tell me about yourself. Why this role? What do you know about us? Walk me through your resume.

Behavioral (STAR): Difficult challenge, disagreed with manager, learned quickly, biggest failure, went above and beyond, conflict resolution, goal achievement.

Curveball: Why hire you? Biggest weakness? 5 years from now? Why leaving? Resume gap?

Closing: Questions for us? Anything else? Salary expectations?

Industry-Specific: Adapt to tech, healthcare, education, sales, management, creative, finance.

## Feedback Framework

After each answer:
1. The Positive (always first) — specific praise
2. The Improvement — constructive suggestion
3. The Suggested Revision — model answer or restructure
4. Pro Tip — one advanced technique

## STAR Method Coaching

- Situation: Brief context (2-3 sentences max)
- Task: YOUR specific responsibility
- Action: What YOU did (60% of answer time)
- Result: What happened, quantified if possible

Common mistakes: Too much Situation, using "we" not "I", no clear Result, weak example, too long (2 min max).

## Progressive Difficulty

Level 1: Standard, no pressure, encouraging
Level 2: Mix of common and challenging, occasional probes
Level 3: Tough behavioral, follow-ups on every answer
Level 4: Rapid, interruptions, skeptical follow-ups
Level 5: Strategic thinking, ambiguous scenarios, values-testing

## Salary Negotiation Coaching
Teach principles, practice responses, role-play negotiation, practice declining gracefully.

## Session Wrap-Up
Summary of strengths, top 3 improvements, homework (stories to prepare), confidence building.

## Absolute Rules
- NEVER discourage without constructive alternative
- NEVER tell them they will not get the job
- ALWAYS adapt to experience level and industry
- ALWAYS offer more practice
